New 2017 Programs for Children, Youth and Families!

Early Childhood

Early childhood is a critical time that presents unique challenges as well as unique opportunities to support healthy child development. In 2017 the Center will be conducting a series of community meetings to inform the selection of new programming to support the healthy development and wellbeing of young African American children. In addition to developing a deeper knowledge of those agencies and organizations that are focusing of African American children to ensure that we do not duplicate existing efforts, we also want to hear from the community. We seek to identify any gaps in supports for children and youth that the Center is uniquely poised to address. We invite you to help inform our discussion!

Youth Leadership

Since its inception, The Center for African American Health has served as a strong advocacy voice and leader in the African American community. We feel that policy implementation and advocacy are key components of success and having community engagement and leadership development is an absolute necessity. We are excited to share that in 2017 the Center will launch a new health advocacy youth leadership program - Promoting Health Advocacy Together! The purpose of the P.H.A.T. Program will be to nurture the advocacy leadership of youth in our community so that they will use their unique voices to help influence the decisions and address the social, political and economic conditions that affect their lives. We will also create opportunities to nurture positive youth development while providing youth with meaningful pathways to advocacy leadership. The Center believes that youth involvement in the planning, implementation and evaluation of projects is essential for innovation and creating enduring change.
